There Is Nothing
Not of God
Every moment of every day, every breath you
take, with every beat of your heart, is God.
You already pray every day just by being.
LET’S SPEAK OF God.
(silence for a long while)
You notice the point? (about the silence)
This is of God.
(silence again)
Do you finally hear the breeze?
This is of God.
Do you feel your heart beating?
This is of God.
There is nothing not of God.
You don’t need to wake up to a knowing of a power elsewhere. You need to wake up to a knowing of a power here inside of you.
Do you think that your heart beats on its own?
Do you think that tree grows on its own?
Do you think those colors shine with a brilliance on their own?
No. It is impossible. God is everywhere. God cannot be otherwise.
Because of this, it is sometimes maddening to “find.” We have the notion that God is not there and we must find it. But it is already there. It is already here. It is like the item sitting on the kitchen counter, where you looked over and over again until someone else comes in and says, “There are your keys right there.” And you laugh. They were there the whole time. And you ransacked the kitchen drawers and searched every pocket of every jacket you owned, and they were sitting there all along.
Can we laugh at this? Please laugh, please laugh. It is not for pain to make this realization; it is for comfort and the sheer humility of the experience of not seeing what is before your face.
Every moment of every day, every breath you take, with every beat of your heart – is God.
You already pray every day just by being.
With much love and rest and quiet, Mary
